The lens is a part of the L-Series, facilitating Macro shooting, making the lens perfect for close-up shots. The design comes with one ultra-low dispersion element that reduces chromatic and spherical aberrations and limits distortion. The rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders astounding bokeh quality images. The physical focus limiter switch allows three ranges for desired focusing speed.
The Super Spectra Coating suppresses flare and ghosting and renders higher contrast and color fidelity in strong lighting conditions and harsh climates. The ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) outputs quick and quiet autofocus. The USM even allows full-time manual focus override. Also, Optical image stabilization reduces camera shake and results in sharper handheld shooting.
The lens is appropriate for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs; however, it is compatible with APS-C models also. The lens provides 160 mm equivalent focal length in APS-C models. Additionally, like all the L-series lenses, this lens is also dust and moisture-sealed and can withstand inclement environmental conditions. Further, the lens is compatible with an optional rotating tripod collar, giving the user the flexibility of working with tripods and monopods.
